One nice thing about the recent alliance of Pearson IT Certification with MS Press is that you can glom onto most of the “good stuff” for Microsoft cert prep from a single outlet — which is to say “Right here!” That’s why I was pleased to see titles for the updated (8.1) versions of the Windows 8 exams are either already available, or coming in the next month or so.
There’s an MCSA on Windows 8.1 available, though it’s called MCSA: Windows 8. The exams for this credential, however, unambiguously reference Windows 8.1:
If you stare at the fine print hard enough, you’ll see 8.1 called out in both exam titles.
Here’s what’s available, or coming soon, to cover those two topics at long last. The quick succession from Windows 8 to 8.1 caught lots of cert publishers unprepared so it’s nice to see them catching up with exams for the moment.

This is one of those situations where the ground kept shifting under the authors’ and publishers’ feet, simply because the cert coverage changed faster than the normal publication process could track. It will be very interesting to see how Microsoft’s new rapid update cadence (yearly or better) works into the cert publishing and training worlds. It’s nice to see some good materials finally making themselves available nevertheless!
